Griffith Park Observatory in Los Angeles, CA

The Zeiss Telescope
Rating: You Should Go

We celebrated the first day of summer at the Griffith Park Observatory with Nate's family.  We got there around 5pm.  Parking was pretty bad so Nate's dad dropped us off and parked down the hill.  We picked up food outside the park and ate at a table overlooking Los Angeles.  This would have been a great idea if we had remembered to ask for utensils, but we made do.  After, we watched a showing of Centered in the
Universe in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium.  Tickets were $5 for students and seniors and $7 for general admission.  I am very prone to motion sickness, but I only had to close my eyes a couple times during the show to feel just fine.  The Observatory itself is FREE and well worth a drive up the hill.  We got to see a demonstration of a Tesla Coil (which has nothing to do with astronomy but was really cool), look through the Zeiss Telescope at Saturn, and browse the exhibits.  This is the perfect place for a family day trip or a class field trip (for you teachers out there).

A working Tesla coil.

An interactive periodic table of elements.

The view from the roof.
