Party Idea #5: Big Lebowski Party

The Big Lebowski is sort of a cult favorite, so I understand if this isn't one you'd like to celebrate. Nate and I happen to enjoy it and so do our friends, so for one particular friend's birthday, we decided to put this party idea into action. The group went bowling earlier in the evening, then went back to someone's house for dinner and the movie. If done right, the night can be rather inexpensive. I have signed up for
emails for AMF and Brunswick bowling so that I receive discounts all the time (otherwise bowling can be very expensive). Often, I get coupons for $2 per game or $50 for bowling, shoes, and soda for up to 6 people. Depending on the bowling location, you may need to plan for a weekday, Sunday night, or before 5pm to get the cheapest rates. Or, if you want to go the super inexpensive route, you can play a few games of bowling on the Wii with the Wii Sports game that comes with almost every system.

After you've gotten your bowling on, it's best to just share some pizza for dinner (classic bowling food). For drinks, you can opt for soda and water. Or, to be more true to the night's theme, you can serve up "The Dude's" White Russians. For this 21-and-over beverage, you'll need:

The Dude's White Russian

• 1 bottle of Kahlua (original flavor)
• 1 bottle of vodka (any kind with no special flavoring)
• 1 quart of half and half

Mix 2 parts vodka, 1 part Kahlua, and 1 part half and half (using a shot to measure each "part" is the easiest). Note: I like to use cream instead of half and half because it's a little sweeter, but it's not completely accurate that way.

Then you're ready to pop in your copy of The Big Lebowski on Blu-ray or DVD, or rent it from Amazon Instant, and enjoy your night. Also, having a fancy rug to decorate your living room for the evening is not a bad touch.
