The Poseidon Restaurant in Del Mar, CA

Rating: You Should Go

The Poseidon is an upscale restaurant right on the beach in Del Mar.  The view is amazing (the perfect place to watch the sunset), and the food is even better.  There's a large bar area inside that seems to be the place to go for singles on a Friday night.  We sat on the patio, though, which is where I would recommend anyone sitting if they just want a relaxing evening out.

At night, people were a lot dressier than the board shorts and t-shirts attire the website seems to promote.  Maybe lunch is a different story.  It's one of those places where each item of the meal is sold separately and there are little numbers next to them without dollar signs.  I think the average entree price was between $24-$35 (that's not including sides).  Everything is organic and sustainable, and they have a large assortment of vegetarian options.  Despite the fact that it's right on the ocean, they have a decent selection of non-sea food.  For our meal, we shared an appetizer of calamari (which was the best and biggest I'd ever had).  I had the Pistachio Crusted Salmon on top of mashed potatoes and Nathan had the Tequila-Lime Tortellini with chicken for the main dish.  Both were very good and surprisingly filling for their size.  We also shared sorbet for dessert.  The views, the atmosphere, and the food (plus the fact that someone treated us to dinner when we went), made this the perfect anniversary dinner.
