Rating: You Should Go
Honeymoons are great for getting special treatment. We got our rental car upgraded from economy to luxury, our hotel room upgraded to an ocean-view suite, and all the free key lime pie we could stomach. There were a few things we had to pay for on our trip, though, and it was all worth it. The next several blogs will give you a breakdown of where we went and how it measured up, starting with where we stayed.
The Azul Del Mar is a tiny hotel with access to the gulf on its own private beach. There are only 6 rooms total in this place, but the two that we stayed in were very clean and nicely decorated. We chose the hotel because it was rated Best Kept Secret of Key Largo by Trip Advisor and only cost $150 a night (a good deal for that area). When we arrived, we got in late at night and our room key was waiting for us. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We watched movies (Key Largo included, of course) from the small collection they had in the office and took advantage of their free Kayaks. Most of the time we spent our evenings laying out on the small dock just watching the sunset. The first room we stayed in (the Tropical Garden suite) had a main room with a Queen bed, small living room, and kitchen area along with a bathroom. It was cozy and very nice. The view was of the lawn but all you had to do was peak your head outside the door to see the ocean.
We got upgraded to the Deluxe Sea View suite our third night. It was on the ground floor and one whole wall had windows facing the ocean. There was a King bed, a large bathroom with a shower and tub, another room (that was locked because we didn't need it), a full kitchen, and a full living room. We loved watching the sunset (and the baseball game) while sitting on the couch. I would definitely stay here again.
