We drove up with a friend to Tuolumne, CA (which is near Yosemite) for a friend's wedding. It was a short trip but a lot of fun. On the way there, we stopped at Pea Soup Andersen's in Gustine. We had never heard of the place but our friend said his family went there all the time, so it turned into our little adventure. The place is
Dutch themed - we think (sorry if you're a true fan and you're yelling at your computer because we don't know). The one we went to has a big windmill and the inside is decorated with stones (pictured), green walls, and bright simple flower designs. There's also a front gift shop area with souvenirs, food items, and beer steins.
For lunch, we shared a Monte Cristo sandwich with a side of pea soup. We had never had a Monte Cristo before and it was delicious! It's basically everything you could eat for breakfast all in sandwich form. The best part was the raspberry preserves that they gave us to dip our sandwich into. It was so good that we bought a jar of it to bring home with us (we eat it on turkey sandwiches now and it tastes wonderful). The pea soup was just okay. Our friend got the pea soup by itself and it came with all of this meat and cheese and other things to put inside of the soup that we're sure made it taste much better. From what we remember, the prices were around the $10-$20 range. It was a fun stop.
