The Glockenspiel Restaurant in Mt. Angel, OR

Rating: You Might Like It

Mt. Angel is a little German community in Oregon.  It's a fun place just to take a stroll, but we happened on it while there was a little festival going on.  There were old cars and a live brass
band playing.  There were free root beer floats and pitting sitting on lawn chairs enjoying the music and the sun.  The Glockenspiel Restaurant was having a spaghetti dinner fundraiser with beer and wine tasting.

We hadn't expected all this, and hadn't bought tickets for the fundraiser, so we started by eating dinner inside the Glockenspiel.   We had a cheese fondue with bread and apples as an appetizer.  Then we shared a plate of the Wiener Schnitzel with potatoes and Spatzle soup.  It was all delicious.  True Wiener Schnitzel is very different from the fast food restaurant.  It's actually a cut of juicy pork that's breaded and sits in gravy (yes, despite our German heritage we had never had real Wiener Schnitzel).  Although the dinners are a little expensive ($15-$25 a plate), we split one plate and had more than enough to eat.  (We also heard that Mt. Angel is the best place to go for Oktoberfest.)
