The Salem Saturday Market may not seem like much, but it is a lot of fun on a Saturday morning. The market caters to local growers and producers. Coming from California, we were impressed by how environmentally
conscious the market was as a whole. They had a no-waste policy where any trash accumulated in the market was either composted or recycled. They even had people posted at the garbage cans to help people figure out where things went.
Although we didn't buy much (and if someone opened a stall for sunglasses they could make a killing), it was fun to people watch and smell all of the foods being cooked. If we weren't on vacation looking forward to a 20+ hour drive back in a crowded van, we would have wanted to buy all of the refurbished furniture, hand-made rugs, and huge $10 bouquets of flowers. It was a lot of fun, and had free parking and admission as well as low-cost goods. We'll let the pictures tell the rest.
